LA-Screen, LA-Confirm, KaocLot and LA Control Plasma-Lupus Anticoagulant Test Systems Lupus Anticoagulants (LA) are phospholipid "interfering" antibodies, closely related to anticardiolipin antibodies. LA prolong clotting tests such as APTT and DRVVT which are responsive to procoagulant phospholipid concentration. LA are not corrected by mixing with normal plasma but may be corrected by the addition of phospholipid.

LA Screen and LA Confirm

LA Screen and LA Confirm are simplified (one-stage) Dilute Russell's Viper Venom Time (DRVVT) tests, comprising a simplified, complete screening and confirmatory system for the detection of Lups Anticoagulant. LA-Screen is a sensitive screening test prolonged in the presence of Lupus Anticoagulant, LA-Confirm is insensitive to LA due to the additional phospholipid and is currenty regarded as the most specific confirmatory assay for LA. Both reagents are suitable for manual or automated methods. KaocLot

The Kaolin Clotting Time test is essentially an APTT test using a contact factor activator without added phospholipid. KoacLot is based on the original Kaolin Clotting Time (KCT) using new low turbidity colloidal kaolin, making this reagent suitable for use on most coagulation analysers. KaocLot shows extremely high sensitivity to LA in otherwise haemostatically uncomplicated patients, especially pregnant women, where it is desirable to retain a broad screening method such as the KCT.
